Mary Margaret Miller

Mary Margaret Miller, 98, of Springfield, passed away Sunday June 24, 2012 at St. John’s Hospice.

She was born May 21, 1914 in Springfield the daughter of George Benjamin Lutyens M.D. and Rose Evans Lutyens. She married Dr. Clifford C. Miller and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Madeline Dorosheff, Anna Hudd and June Lutyens.

Mary graduated from Sacred Heart Academy and studied at the Chicago Art Institute. Besides her family, her major interest in life was art. She worked in oil, watercolor, acrylic and clay. She was also a Commercial Artist serving as Advertising Manager for several high end stores and later had her own Advertising Agency.

She was a member of the Prairie Art Alliance, Springfield Art Association, Chicago Art Institute, Illinois State Museum Society, Abraham Presidential Library Foundation, Lincoln Memorial Garden Association, Daughters of the American Revolution, Chapter EO of PEO and was a longtime contributor to WILL public television. She was active during her lifetime in civic affairs and was the recipient of many advertising awards.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol Costello of Springfield; son, Ben Miller of Chicago; grandchildren, John Costello of Springfield, David Costello (Julie) of Chicago, Katherine Whitlock (Mark) of Burke, VA; great grandchildren, Benjamin and Jack Whitlock and several nieces and nephews.

The family of Mary Margaret Miller is being served by Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel where friends may call Friday June 29, 2012 from 10:00 AM until the time of services there at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dr. Robert Swickard officiating. Interment will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
