Stanley F. Stowers, 76, of Springfield, passed away Friday July 6, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center.

He was born in Springfield, Aug. 7, 1935 the son of Frank L. and Lois Susan Brown Stowers. His parents and his step mother Emma Stowers preceded him in death. He married Evelyn Joyce Gates April 15, 1961.

Stanley attended Springfield Junior College and the University of Illinois where he was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He graduated from Milliken University in 1963 with a Bachelors Degree. He was a Registered Professional Engineer having worked at the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, Illinois Department of Transportation, C.I.P.S. and also worked at Steak N’ Shake for many years. Stan was also an avid golfer.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughters, Susan Williams (husband, Brent) of Huntington, WV and Julie Stowers of Argenta; Brother, Larry Stowers (wife, Marianne) of Springfield ; three grandson s, Eric Hunter, Richard Ramsey and Brandon Lepper and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial gathering will be held at Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel Tuesday July 10, 2012 from 5:00 PM until the time of a celebration of life there at 7:00 PM. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. (www.boardman-smith.net).
